This year I was struck down by a bout of chronic eczema. Which, it turns out was induced by the steroid creams I have been chomping on and generously slathering all over my body.
Being a Fashion Stylist means I have to be putting myself out there on a daily basis and selling myself to an industry that is predominantly based on image.
When your body looks like Gaga in her meat dress, you have a turkey neck like Michael Douglas and you can’t fall asleep till 6am (even on Valium!) for months - due to steroid induced Adrenal failure - it definitely takes the wind out of one’s sails. I have now been ‘Clean’ from Steroids for two and half months and am very much on the mend
I was keen to do a three day juice cleanse to see what positive effects that would have on my healing skin:
I decided to go for Nosh as they come highly recommended. I started the juice cleanse just after styling a music video for 16 hours straight, then straight onto a fashion shoot and before a trip to Cannes.
The night before day one I had a tiny slice of cheese cake and ended up getting red streaks across my face, I went to bed bloated and lay awake most the night.
My three days worth of juices were delivered to my door the night before in separate gift bags which went straight in the fridge.
Woke at 9am & was disappointed to discover my usual porridge with berries & a coffee would be switched with ‘ginger lemonade’ flowed by 1.5 litres of water my first calorie consumption was being withheld until 11am apparently - in the form of a green slush.
Seeing as I wasn’t filling my body with toxins I thought I should even things up on the entertainment front & watch some junk tv, so I started making my way through season 7 of Made In Chelsea and gulped my specific juices at allotted times throughout.
I went to bed grumpy and knackered but my skin was clearer after just one day. Motivating much?
I didn’t sleep at all the night before (which is partially to do with my steroid addiction) but the hunger pangs from 4am didn’t help.
Despite that I was pretty energetic, I think that must be because I was fuelled by a billion micronutrients. Was walking on air and felt light and glow-y. Watched this documentary about an obese Aussie who cleansed for 60 days, which put things in perspective.
After their soup-juice each night there’s a ‘Nut mylk’ (yes, Mylk) which is made from nuts and seeds, you can warm this up and drink it before bed, I washed it down with a sleeping pill - not very detox, but needs must as I was up early for a meeting the next morning.
I was very grumpy on day three as had a busy day, cheated with a Nosh smoothie from Wholeflods to supplement my calorie intake. It was either that I would have been curled round a street bin, power napping.
I was feeling very smug that I had successfully detoxed without too much whinging, the three days went surprisingly fast. No pun intended.
On day four I had a quick bowl of porridge before running to the airport but could only eat half a bowl, not my usual style.
My skin had cleared up a remarkable amount over the three days, which made me realise that drinking more water and dodging all forms of dairy and/or processed sugar really do make a difference to my skin.
I was also bouncing off the walls with energy from all the green nutrients I had consumed and definitely felt lighter. I was pure…
…I then jumped on a plane straight to a party at Cannes Lions International Festival Of Creativity at which I had a large bottle of Evian in one hand and an endless glass of Champagne in the other. I was a well balanced woman.
On my return I got juicing like crazy using the empty Nosh bottles to turn my fridge into a multicoloured apothecary.
If you’re having problems with your skin, sleep, energy or just want a pre-holiday or post-indulgence boost, I highly recommend Nosh detox as it’s a reasonable price and the juices and soups taste lovely which make the three days zoom by. You fill out a questionnaire at the beginning and they customise your programme to suit your needs.
